BOOST of Self-Control

BOOST of Self-Control

I am reading my bible, and a notification comes up, TWO MESSAGES. I say to myself “well, this will only take a minute, just a few messages, and I’ll be right back.” Before I know it, I am scrolling through one video, second video, third…and now I am on YOU-tube, and another video, looking up, “Five minute crafts”

I had just looked at the notifications right, how did I end up on “five minute craft” ?

The enemy is distracting us everywhere. Before I go and blame the devil for every mistake I make, let me clarify, the enemy is that which is hurtful, or harmful to me, or a person who is actively opposed or hostile to something, or someone. Now that we got that cleared up, when I refer to the enemy I refer to that which is hurtful, harmful, or hostile to me. The enemy cannot directly attack me, UNLESS I allow myself to fall for the temptations of that which is hurtful, harmful, or hostile to me.

There are many things that are hurtful, harmful, or hostile to me, I just need discernment to know which is, and which isn’t beneficial to me. That’s where knowledge comes in. Knowledge is POWER! Knowledge empowers me, to be able to do the things I do today! When I know the information to something, I have the responsibility to act upon it, and apply that KNOWLEDGE to my life, and not only apply it, but share this information with someone else.

Self-control one of the important fruits of the Spirit. The bible teaches us that if we do not have self-control, we are bound to fall for the temptations of the enemy, and fall into despair, but GOD also promises us that EVEN if we are tempted, he will provide a way out for us, to escape our enemy.

What a powerful, good GOD we serve!

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. ” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
GOD knows us, and he knows exactly how many fruits and vegetables to put on our plate. He knows what our flesh can handle, and he knows the ability we possess, and the capability of strength to handle our weaknesses.

SELF-CONTROL is the restraint exercised over one’s own impulses, emotions, or desires. In other words SELF-DISCIPLINE

Self control is the ability to control one’s emotions, desires, and feelings, especially in a difficult situation. Self control is when I am focused on my studies, and a social media notification comes up, I am able to say “NOT RIGHT NOW”. It is the moment I decide to have coffee, but choose to drink water instead. It is when I discipline myself to go to the gym three to four times a week, and I showed up every single time. It is when I desperately desire to watch my tv sitcom, but decide to read my bible instead.

That moment of desperation when I desperately want to say YES, but instead choose to say NO. No temptation of any kind, any sort, and any shape, can come in between me and my decision to say NO!

It is so easy to get lost with all these distractions, and temptations all around us, and we got to use, and exercise this gift of self-control in our lives. One of the very important fruits of the spirit, SELF-CONTROL. Here are a few scriptures to BOOST your spirit.

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” (Proverbs 25:28)

” My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
(James 1:19-21)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

I’ve got to use self-control, EVEN if I don’t feel like it! With every moment of my sacrifice the fruit of the spirit grows in me, and I am able to say NO the next time, I am tempted.

I am reminded of the difficult moments of when I chose to use self-control that grew me into the person I am today, instead of giving into my selfish desires, and I smile!
