Trials and Temptations

JAMES 1: 1-8

FROM James, a servant of God, and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

TO The twelve tribes scattered among the nations

[ THE CHURCH, the persecuted, the one’s undergoing trials.]

 2. Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.

3. because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

4. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

5. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

6. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

7. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

8. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

A TRIAL is a process of testing/trying, to achieve desirable results.

Trials come in all shapes, and sizes, and also last for seasons, for different reasons. These trials seem to come out of nowhere, and are part of our daily walk with Christ. No one is exempt from these trials. Trials are those moments of struggles, persecutions, and problems, that come at us, as saints at all sides, also known as uncomfortable FIRES!

In this chapter James, a disciple of Christ, is encouraging us to go through these fires, and “rejoice” when we face them, for the trials and fires of life produce in us perseverance.

To persevere is to stand through continues course of action without regard to discouragement, opposition, or failure.

To rejoice is to be glad, and to be delighted, but not in the way that this world does, in a way that glorifies the father, through persecutions, and trials, with a smile on our face.

Trials or fires are for our benefit, designed to perfect us, to make us stronger, able to withstand anything that comes our way.

But how can I rejoice in my trials? These moments are uncomfortable, and painful…

We have to remember that the JOY of the Lord is our strength! These trials we face, are only there to strengthen us, not hurt us. Take football for example, and military training, without perseverance you cannot last a day. You need endurance, patience, self control to make it to the top, you need discomfort to press through to the TOP.

When we know the truth, which is the WORD of God, we are able to push the lies of the enemy to the side. He speaks lies, we shut the mouth of a lion, by rejoicing with truth.

Do you find yourself angry with GOD? Do you keep avoiding discomfort, asking the LORD to take away your trials? We need trials to refine us, to be the best of ourselves that we can be, not lacking anything. Keep in mind, after you go through such tests and trials you will mature, grow, and not lack anything.

We have all been through trials, the KEY here is to persevere through those testing moments, and seasons, be refined as gold, and come out Victorious.

The next trial you go through, picture the finish line, and keep your eyes on heaven. Run the RACE set before you. Don’t worry about the obstacles, persevere, press through, until you reach your GOAL, get to the finish line.

If you need God’s help, invite him into your fire, and ask him to help you endure your trials. He will help you, and strengthen you. He is a good good father.

Not my will, but yours be done LORD!

If you lack wisdom, also known as understanding, ask God to give you an understanding of the trial. When you ask, believe and it shall be given to you, BUT you must not doubt God, because doubter is unstable in all of his ways, should not expect anything from the LORD.

Do you doubt God when you pray? Do you doubt when you ask?

Ask him to help your unbelief, and remove your doubts. Read his word more so that you grow in Faith and trust.

Lord Jesus help us to run this race set before us, and finish ahead. Help us to grow in you and trust you. Help us to persevere, and not give up, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. The JOY of the Lord is our strength, trials are for our good! In Jesus MIGHTY name Amen.
