” Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].” Philippians 4:8
Have you heard of a statement “If you have nothing good to say, don’t say nothing at all ” ? That is exactly what Paul was trying to say to the church at Corinth. Be careful, and watch your words. If it isn’t nice to say, use self control, and don’t say anything at all.
Not only does he encourage us to watch our words, he also urges us to examine our thoughts. What are we constantly thinking about ? Is it good, honorable, and beneficial to our health? Or is it destructive to us, and those around us?
Words forms from thoughts, thoughts spring into words, then action. What we think about tends to reflect in our conversations, what we say, shows up in our actions. If we think about good things, good things will begin to spring in our lives, if we think about negative things, we will receive the fruit of our labor. The bible says we will taste the words we speak.
From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things, but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence. Proverbs 13:2
But what if we examined our words carefully, and kept them under control. What if we watched our mouth, and took control of our thoughts? How would our life change? What if we examined the music we listened to, and movies we watched?
What we say, what we think about, what we declare, will be the result of our actions, if we don’t control it.
We don’t have to follow the pattern of the world, we don’t have to do what they do, and follow what they entertain. The world is after things that are contrary to the spirit. Let us submit our thoughts to the WORD of GOD. Our flesh wants to say things, and is complete opposite of the spirit. Our flesh is selfish, hateful, and ugly, we are selfish, hateful, and ugly, and that is why we must submit our flesh to the word of GOD, DAILY.
We must release that which benefits, and encourages, into the atmosphere, rather than that which destroys, and discourages our lives.
