We can know about God, the creator of the universe, but not really intimately know him on a personal level.
” “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
The most gruesome, horrific words you can hear on that day, when you stand before God on judgement day!
I NEVER KNEW YOU!
I went to church my whole life, I read my bible faithfully, I prayed, I fasted, I performed miracles, wonders. I gave to the homeless, visit the sick…who even wants to hear those words?
Knowing requires a relationship. A connection, association, or involvement with another party, or cause. Relationship requires two people with committed hearts to each other, and willingness to serve one another should the need arise.
Knowing requires a listening ear, communication, and dedication to the person or cause.
Not just know somebody through a local gathering, church, or community, school, but actually know them, personally, or a more intimate level. Their likes, and dislikes, hopes, dreams and aspirations.
There is a difference!
I am fortunate enough to have those deeper relationships in my life. In every season of my life, God will send someone into my life to support me, encourage me on my walk with him, pray with me, and have that intimate relationship that requires commitment, and dedication on both sides. I will put my time and energy into creating that friendship, and invest into the relationship, whatever means necessary.
But there has been a season, or a few, where I did not have anyone to confide in, or have that relationship with, besides my husband, this is when I ran to Jesus, my friend, my confidant, my best friend, and confided in him.
You can know about somebody, through a friend, co worker, but not truly know them. You might know their name, their status, or class, but not knowing those intimate, personal details, that only they can share with you. You can read about God, hear about the miracles, and wonders, he performed, but unless you are intimately involved, and experiencing miracles, you just know about him, but not fully know him.
I remember someone close to me coming to me with a set of questions.
” Lena, do you truly know God exists. I mean we hear about him, we know about him, but that’s all that we have. You say you have experienced God, I never had those moments with him, you say you felt him, I never did, therefore I conclude that existence of God is still in question in my world.” [ Agnostic view]
Knowing requires more than just knowledge. It requires dedication, commitment, and faithfulness to the cause or task. It requires research, it requires study, seeking, and persistent knocking. Something more intentional, and personal that goes beyond just information.
It will require one to commit and invest into the cause, support the cause, get to know the party, and dedicate their time and energy to a particular person, or place.
Do you celebrate their achievements, curious about their endeavors, do you wonder about their dreams and desires? Find out their likes, and dislikes, their preferences, and even their schedules.
⭐ You can know about somebody, but not really know them, then you can truly know someone, and have a relationship with them. ⭐
God desires to KNOW us, and he opens up up that invitation to us!
” Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
Revelations 3:20 NIV
He desires to have communion with us. He desires to hear about our troubles, our worries, our aspirations, hopes and desires. Those troubles we seem to carry, and those unanswered questions. God desires that we spend time with him, and give him our utmost attention.
Do you have a relationship with God Almighty? Can you bring your troubles, hidden desires, dreams, and hope of tomorrow to his feet? Can you trust him with your secrets, can you tell him about your endevours?
It’s never too late! Carve out some time, and seek that relationship with God. Be a friend of God, not a stranger that visits him once in a while, as an obligation to the cause.
Seek ye first the KINGDOM, and all his Righteousness, knowing comes along with the package.
I hope this has been an inspiration to you, and encourages you to seek that personal, and intimate relationship with God. Till next time!
