In a place of Temptations

For the last couple of weeks I have been on a detoxing journey, getting rid of toxins in my life. It has not been the most comfortable journey, because it involves discomfort, removal, struggle, and the use of self control, however it is a much needed one, in the life of a spiritual believer.

Scripture Focus: Luke 4:1-13

Jesus, the son of God, tempted in every shape and form, enduring the pain, discomfort, and struggles that we humankind face, is led by the spirit of God to a place of wilderness [ isolation, desolation, and temptation ] where satan tempts him and tries to trick him.

For 40 days, and 40 nights Jesus ate nothing, and drink nothing, so satan knew he was hungry. Satan knew his weakness, so he presented a cunning way out

“If you are a Son of God tell this stone to become bread” Luke 4:3

On his guard, Jesus responds,

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word, that procedes out of the mouth of God.” Luke 4:4

When that didn’t work, satan comes up with another plot, because he is always watching, coming up with another plan or scheme.

Next, the bible tells us that the devil brings Jesus to a high place, and shows him all the kingdoms of the world [ wealth, power, and riches]

” I will give you all their authority and splendor, it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone i want to, if you worship me, it will be yours.” Luke 4:6-7

Jesus once again replies:

“It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve only him”. Luke 4:8

Jesus responds to the lies of satan with the word of GOD! He quotes scripture! A weapon that is capable of dividing all lies, and tricks of the enemy.

The SWORD

When he sees that its not working, he increases the fire, then comes back with another trick

” If you say who you are, throw yourself down from here. Scripture says ” He will command his angels conserning you to guard you carefully, they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone” quoting Psalm 91:11,12

To which Jesus calmly responds with scripture.

When the enemy inceeases the fire, respond with the WORD of GOD

In all three accounts satan comes to tempt the Son of God, and Jesus responds with the truth of God. This is our weapon, in our times of temptation, this is how we fight our battles!

The WORD OF God, double edged sword, powerful enough to break through the barriers, and slice lies.

We are only aware of few accounts of his temptation. He was there 40 days and 40 nights. I can only imagine what Jesus went through. No food, no water, isolated, in a place of wilderness, danger and satan.

But praise be to God that Jesus overcame every temptation known to humankind, so we don’t have to struggle. In this we have confidence that we are overcomers.

I have fasted and gone on many journeys of Faith, and consecration, and can testify that each sacrifice is not easy. Our flesh does not like discomfort, let alone pain, hunger, and desolation. However if we just put our trust, and hope in the Lord, we too can overcome satan in our place of wilderness, when temptation is all around us.

Blessings as you lean on the Lord in your season of lack, isolation, discomfort, and pain, because he is the source that supplies all of our needs and desires.

I hope you have been blessed and encouraged. Until next time!

Yours truly, Lena
