Growing up in church, plastered on the wall, we had this picture titled
GOD IS LOVE
As a little girl, I remember the impact it had made on my life. I oftentimes look back and remember those words.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Deep in my heart, it has been engraved “God is LOVE!”
GOD IS LOVE?
Yes the nature, and identity of God is love. But not the world’s definition of love, 1st Corinthians 13:4-8 kind of definition of love.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Kind, loving, faithful, patient, not dishonoring, prideful or arrogant, but love that overlooks all, and covers all. Sacrificial, unconditional, as well as eternal kind of love.
God loves us regardless of how we feel about him. He send his son, to die for humankind. Regardless of who these people are, his love is constant, for everyone; murderer, thief, lawbreaker, righteous, pure. He send his son to die for prisoners, liars, and even the ignorant. Can you imagine giving up your life for someone who would not even move a finger for you? Can you imagine giving up your son, or daughter for humankind, and I’m not talking about good people, I’m talking about the worst of the worst kind of people. The one’s that spat in his face, slandered him, beat him, and crucified him.
His love is unexplainable. This love is sacrificial, and life giving!
This passage speaks volumes, and I’m thankful!
I pray my reflection spoke to you, and inspired you to love, as Jesus loves. Because God is love, and we are his children who ought to love as he does.
