We have been going through the assigned chapters in our study via #SwordStudyDelight and today I came across such a heavy topic, that I wanted to share some of the burden with you, and pray it is a blessing to you.

It comes from 1 Samuel 15

In which God commands King Saul, through his prophet Samuel to go on a mission, to destroy Amalikes, whom left women childless, and blocked the way for Israelites, and everything that belonged to that city. Saul goes on a mission, but he doesn’t do exactly what the Lord commands.

#1. He decides to spare Kenites whom showed him kindness.

#2. He captures king Agag alive.

#3. He keeps the best sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the Lord.

SAUL PARTIALLY obeys the Lord! He destroys the Amalikes, but spares his allies, the king, and the best portion of sheep and cattle.

Partial obedience is still disobedience

Not FULLY following instructions, is STILL disobedience. Dissobedience is rebelling against the Lord. You can follow SOME of God’s commands, but not everything, and you are already acting out of disobedience toward God.

For Rebellion is like a sin of witchcraft, and arrogance is like the evil of idolatry.

1 Samuel 15:23

The Lord instructed Saul to destroy the Amalikes, he chose to do what was pleasing and comfortable to him. He freed some, and captured the king. The Lord told Saul to completely destroy sheep, and cattle, Saul kept back some of the best for himself, then lied and made excuses. He wasn’t taking God seriously, he was toying with God. He did not fear God, he feared men. God saw through his intentions and was not pleased with his actions. We must do what the Lord instructs or not do it at all.

Proverbs 1:9

To FEAR God is to FOLLOW HIS commands, to FEAR God is to OBEY HIS instructions. Not SOME instructions or SOME commands, but ALL and in FULL context. When we disobey ONE command, we disobey ALL.

God is NOT a man that HE should lie, or a human being to CHANGE his mind.

1 Samuel 15:29

Bottom line: To obey is better than sacrifice

Help us Lord to discern your plan, and follow your ways. Help us to always respond to your instructions, and follow your commands. Not only some but all! You are not a man that you should lie. If you said it, we believe it. If you instructed us to go, and destroy, we fully obey. Thank you for your wisdom at this hour to fully obey you. Amen
