Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
Solomon, the wisest king in Israel, also shares his wisdom, and I am going to compile upon his words.
With their mouths, the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
Proverbs 11:9 NIV
Think about it! WORDS kill, and words heal. We must choose what it is that we desire to accomplish.
Another translation says it like this
A hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
Proverbs 11:9 American King James Version
A hypocrite is a modern-day Pharisee, a talker but not a doer, a religious phony. One who places burden upon another, but does nothing to lift his finger. One who loves to be acknowledged, and respected, but does nothing to deserve that honor. A pretender that only does things for a show, to be liked, but within are corrupt, evil, and pretentious, full of greed, and every evil practice. Matthew 23
The godless, or hypocrites, destroy everyone, and everything around them. No matter what they touch, or who they touch, they are bound to be effective, and poisonous. They do not even realize this, they are used to saying things, and are in the habit of gossiping, slandering, and causing damage. They do not care about the principles and morals of God. They live for themselves, they fill their own stomach and chase after pleasures and treasures of this world. They are selfish, arrogant, and proud, and it shows.
AS SUCH WERE SOME OF US!
Before God got hold of us, we too were sinful, destructive, and hypocritical, but PRAISE BE to God for saving us from our own destruction and rescuing us from trouble.
The wicked, destroy everything they build, but FEAR NOT God rescues the righteous from the trouble!
God gives wisdom to the one’s that desire to live a righteous life. A life that is in right standing with God. He enables us to control, and tame our tongue. He gives us strength to overcome our weaknesses, and makes a way out of no way.
Let us pray
Lord, I say things I don’t mean, and do things I am not proud of. HELP ME and rescue me from my own destruction. Tame my tongue, and help me to control my words. If it’s not pleasing, beneficial, or good, to my well-being or others, remove it far from me. Help me to stay pure, and pleasing to you. I desire to be pleasing unto you and follow after you. Examine my heart, my spirit, my thoughts, see if there is any wicked way in me, lead me in a way of everlasting. In Jesus’ name, I pray, AMEN!
