DAY 16 - PRESS ON
Reading for Personal Growth, 40 Days with God by Matthew Myers
“Not that I have already obtained all of this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things, and if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already obtained.”
Five short verses. Two powerful lessons / statements.
For a while now I have been complacent. Something that is wrong in God’s view. I was happy just being saved and living in that comfort of knowing my future in heaven. That is not why we are here. As the writer says I have not gotten all that God has in store for me in this world.
Many bible stories and Jesus’ parables tell of the servant who was given some and used it and God multiplied it and gave it back to them. Others who did nothing had the gifts taken back from them. Not saying you will lose your salvation, but rather God will bless you with more as you use what he has given you to His glory.
Don’t look back at your sordid past in regret or in glory at all you have done for God. Look ahead to all the blessings yet to come as you fulfill the destiny God laid out for you before he called you out of the darkness. He has a purpose for each of us in this world as well as the next.
The second part is that we, through our life and salvation in Christ, have already received invaluable gifts from God.
How could you place any sort of value on it?
How can we not step up to do what God asks of us?
How can we not glorify him and strive to bring more to his family?
He does not ask more than we can give. He will give us the tools and the ability when the time comes. Open yourself up to the Lord, and he will step in and use you as a portal to reach those lost in the darkness.
