Verse of the Day
It’s been a while since I posted a “Verse of the day“. I need to be more consistent with posting daily verses. *makes a note…be more constant with posting daily verses.
Normally I share YouVersion Bible Verse of the Day, but today I will be sharing a Visual Verse from Creation speaks which you can find on the front page of my site.
Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the LORD our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments
1 Kings 8:61 NIV
Today’s Verse reminds us
- To be fully devoted to GOD. To be devoted to something requires our full attention by feeling or displaying strong affection or attachment. We can be devoted to our spouses, kids, careers, and even hobbies and entertainment, so much that we forget what truly matters. To be fully devoted to God requires our full attention to God, by displaying strong affection and devotion to his matters, and principles. That means we are to put out away focus on everything else, and instead, to place that focus on Jesus, and what he wants us to do.
- Walk-in his statues. Walking requires careful stepping. One foot in front of the other. Walking also requires paying attention. Step by step, we are moving further along. To walk in the statue of the Lord requires us to carefully consider every step according to God’s laws and principles, which are found in his holy book-the BIBLE. Not to walk hastily, without care, but rather place careful consideration, and effort into each decision, we make. Not only that, we must follow God’s statutes, and laws and that simply means, read his word, and apply that word to our lives. One cannot read the word, and walk away unchanged!
- Keep his commandments. Keep what God says seriously! I am reminded of a story in the GOSPEL of Matthew 19 where a young rich boy approaches Jesus.
Teacher what good thing must I do to get eternal life?
Matthew 19:16 NIV
to which Jesus replies;
Why do you ask about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments!
Matthew 19:17 NIV
Notice a command by Jesus! Keep the commandments.
Growing up we have learned there are 10 commandments – 10 laws on which the principles of God stand, which can be found in the book of Exodus 20 that are explained in further detail. Here we find out that the young boy keeps these commandments.
I have kept them since I was a young boy !
In other words, “I guess I’m alright cause I have been doing that since I was this high. *Points to his height 😂 What else?”
Jesus challenges the young boy further
If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come follow me.
Matthew 19:21 NIV
We are not to be attached to the riches of this world. The Riches and wealth of this world is temporal, that is here today, but gone tomorrow, but eternity is forever. Sadly the young boy was deeply attached to his riches, and could not do what Jesus asked of him.
Keeping commandments of God requires not only to follow God’s rules and principles but also not be attached to the riches and wealth of this world, as well as following in the example of Jesus.
Jesus then makes his point
Truly I tell you it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Again I tell you it is easier for “a camel to go through the eye of a needle, thank for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
Matthew 19:23 NIV
