1 John 2:12-17

12. I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. 13. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. 14. I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. 15. Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them. 16. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

REFLECTION

Here John is writing to children who know God, Fathers, and young men. He is addressing God's children, those who know the truth. And he says they have overcome the evil one and their sins have been forgiven. John also warns us about the world, telling us to not love the world, everything in it is not of God. If we love the world we cannot love God. We cannot serve 2 masters. We must decide between God or the pleasures of this world. The world will lead us astray, God won’t. Everything in the world-the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eye, pride of life comes not from God but from the world. We must not follow the world, because it has nothing for us, the world is passing away but we will live forever. John is warning us to follow God, do not put our faith in a perishing world.

PRAYER

Lord help us to keep our eyes on you, your word. Help us to walk in your ways. Help us to keep our eyes on our eternal home. Reject the world, and its treasures, in Jesus' name, amen.

NOTE

Remember to not let nay-Sayers lead you away from the true living God, Jesus Christ. If anyone brings another gospel that is not preached by the apostles, do not even give ear to it. Believers must be able to sort out truth from falsehood, with the spirit of discernment.
