One of the greatest barriers to walking fully in our purpose is comparison. It distracts us from our own path, causing us to question who we are, why we’re here, and whether our assignment measures up.

Comparison is one of ways that can be used to block our way to Destiny, fully walking in our purpose, discovering who we are, and even completing our assignment here on earth.

When you make a comparison, you consider two or more things that are similar, and discover the differences between them. via Dictionary.com

When we compare, we analyze similarities and differences between ourselves and others—our identity, our purpose, our mission. But instead of letting comparison steal our joy, we can choose to embrace contentment and step boldly into what God has called us to do.

Challenges can feel like roadblocks, but they can also be stepping stones toward growth and transformation. It all depends on our perspective: will we see an obstacle as a setback or an opportunity for faith to flourish?

Not only do we compare our identity, but we also measure our skill sets, gifts, abilities, and calling against others. We analyze our purpose, strength, and even external attributes like color and function. Comparison can become a trap—one that distracts us from the unique journey God has designed for each of us. But when we shift our perspective, embracing contentment over competition, we begin to walk fully in the purpose He has set before us.

God has not created you and I to compare, he has created us to be unique and different

Comparing ourselves to others, when God created us to be unique and different is a dangerous game, and a foolish way of thinking. We were created for a purpose, with different function, to work together for the good of humanity, and purpose.

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:11-12
NIV BIBLE

In other words, He created some to be builders, some to be encouragers, others to preach the Gospel, and still others to provide, care, teach, lead, distribute, and discipline—all for the benefit of His people.

We are many members with different functions. Some serve, some teach, some help, while others reach. The hand does the work of reaching out to help the needy, the feet carry the Gospel of good news, the mouth speaks, preaches, and teaches, and the brain strategizes and thinks.

You get the point!

Instead of falling into the trap of comparison, we should embrace our own God-given function and trust that every role, no matter how big or small, is essential in His Kingdom.

Comparison is like copying your neighbor’s paper, unaware that each of you has a different set of questions.

What works for someone else may not be meant for you, and their journey is not a blueprint for your own. Instead of looking sideways, focus on your unique path—the one designed specifically for you. Walk in confidence, embrace contentment, and trust that your purpose is unfolding exactly as it should.
