BENEFITS TO JOURNALING

So, what’s the deal with journals? Aren’t those just for school kids?

Journalingkeeping a personal record of occurrences, memories, experiences, and reflections kept on a regular basis; a diary.

I am a huge fan of journaling NOW, although this has not always been the case. I think it is a great way to practice self-reflection, release emotions, and improve communication

Do you journal?

What are your favorite journaling activities?

In my opinion, social media encourages journaling. When you open up Facebook, what’s the first thing that comes up?

“What’s on your mind?”

We’ve all unknowingly just poured our thoughts onto the internet. Rarely do we stop and think, what if someone reads what I wrote?

This encourages a free flow of thoughts, as if we are keeping journals right there on our social media pages. It’s good that they encourage us to write down our thoughts, but not really if we have to put up with ads and the people we are friends with to do it.

I know I’ve done it a million times.

I’ll just mindlessly scroll through my timeline, posting everything from the mundane to the deeply personal and spiritual. How do I know I don’t regret it later? If I’m honest, I rarely do, but there’s a risk, isn’t there?

What if there was a way we processed our thoughts without risk or consequances?

Write Responsibly!

What you write on the internet, stays on the internet.

Here are a few benefits to journaling that I thought can help you make your decition

to journal, or not to journal…

Organizing. Journaling can help us organize our thoughts and feelings. With so many beliefs and systems throwing information and ideas at us, we need some way to create order when the world feels chaotic. Putting things on paper can help bring every foreign thought and feeling into captivity and give it structure and order.

Processing. Journaling provides a place to work out our inner thoughts and feelings in a way that is healthy. How often do we say something we don’t really mean, or think a thought, or embrace an idea that we don’t belong to? Just writing out our thoughts can help us understand what we’re truly feeling, and then we can offer up solutions for those problem areas. Don’t process your feelings if you’re unsure, on the interenet, take those thoughts on paper instead.

Controling. One benefit of journaling is that it helps us control unhealthy ways of thinking and feeling. Journaling lets us understand negative thought patterns, and then we can think of ways to manage them. We can improve the way we respond to mood swings. Usually, we move around as we feel, but what if we decide how we feel, or what we think? What if we focus on thinking about good and useful things?

Dreaming. When we make time for journaling, we can take the time to dream of what’s possible. As a kid, we’re encouraged to dream and use our imagination. There’s no reason to stop doing that! Journaling provides a way to envision and dream of the impossible. If we allow our thoughts to flow without holding them back, they’ll be as free as a river. We can express ourselves, move freely, and even dream up some hidden treasures.

When I was a child, I was always encouraged to keep a diary, but I never really followed up with it. I thought to myself, why would I need a diary? If I had started that habit early on, maybe it would be second nature now.

But I didn’t, so I didn’t.

Anyway, when God moved me to write my story, I didn’t know where to start. I was overwhelmed, and I felt frustrated. There was so much coming at me at once, that it was difficult to even think straight. It was when I took control and organized my thoughts that I found the freedom to write my story, and even process my emotions and feelings.

Starting my journal is so easy now. All I have to do is pick it up and start writing. That wasn’t always the case, though. This habit of journaling has started my devotions, stories, and thoughtful reflections.
