When the WORD of GOD is preached, from the pulpits, or even read in scriptures, seeds are being sown into our spirit man. Depending on the condition of our heart, we will either accept the seed, and reap the harvest; reject, because of thorns, or scorching weather; or let it stay on stony places in our lives, and taken by the enemy.

Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.  But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.Matthew 13:5-6

Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.

Matthew 13:7

Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

Matthew 13:8
