Understanding the workings and role of the Church in believers life.

The Church is God’s chosen community, united in Christ and empowered for his mission in the world.

-Bible in a YEAR

May you experience the deep blessing of genuine fellowship this week, both receiving and extending the love of Christ through his body, the church

– Bible in a YEAR

As we go through the WEEK let us view our church involvment or ministry through fresh eyes.

* The Blog Study draws inspiration from the Bible in a Year Journal While some phrases may be altered for context, the essence remains rooted in the Journal’s concepts rather than being directly copied. To explore each Bible theme and apply these principles to your life, consider purchasing the BOOK for your personal study.

the early church provides us a compelling picture of church community. ” they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer” ( Acts 2:42)

-Bible in a YEAR

Let’s read Acts 2:42-47 in Context

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,  praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

– Acts 2:42-47

Let’s Reflect

Early Church Model

The book of reveals to us what this Church would look like.

  • body of belivers doing life together
  • together at one accord
  • deep devotion to God and one another

It looked like teaching, fellowship, eating and prayer. People hanging together worshipping God, having fellowship and encouraging one another in faith.

Let’s read 1 Cor 12:12-14 in Context

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.  Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

 1 Cor 12:12-14

That’s 15 verses before and 15 verses after, taking note of historical, cultural, literary, and theological context.

Let’s Reflect

One Body Many Parts

The church of Christ is compared to that of a physical body. Like a physical body, each part is different yet unique. Many members, different functions working together to accomplish ONE purpose.

To establish and move God’s Kingdom forward through different functions.

We are all baptised by One Spirit. ( Baptism in God, connects us together) to form one body. Baptism is an outward expression of faith and confession.

Jews, Gentiles – those that connect and those that do not, slave or free – given one spirit to drink ( metaphorically)

Made up of MANY parts One in GOD

Let’s read Eph 4:11-13 in Context

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,  to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up  until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Eph 4:11-13

Church Leadership & Growth

The PURPOSE of church leadership is to equip his people for works of service, so that the body may function at it’s capability and strength, and that the body may be built up.

Not meant to be a spectacle but a center of training to build up belivers for ministry.

Growth happens when action is applied.

Join the church, join communities, join the fellowship, break bread and pray together, serve the people of God, for this is the PURPOSE of the body of Christ.

Let’s read Matth 16:18 in Context

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

Matthew 16:18

Let’s Reflect

Early Church Model

Jesus declares

” I WILL BUILD A CHURCH, AND THE GATES OF HELL WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DESTROY IT”

The CHURCH stands through the ages. People walk away, people join, the body is changing, developing and growing,  and God is moving through the memebers to BUILD the CHURCH.

No matter what tries to come up against the CHURCH it will not be able to overcome it, nor destroy it. GOD protects his CHURCH – the body and we should too.

LEAVE YOUR THOUGHTS 💭

Your Story is important to someone else. The details of your testimony are life to someone else. I couldn’t have spoken into strangers life, if I myself did not go through the battles. I can only speak because I know the pain, the hurt, and confusion. I pray God comforts us, and gives us the grace to tell our story, no matter how small the details are.

Let’s not hesitate to share our testimonies and help each other walk through the valleys, and reach our destinations together. With a sense of fulfillment, and helping others get there can be a rewarding and satisfying experience, because when we lift each other up, we don’t just reach our destinations, we thrive in them.

I’d love to share your Story on my SITE!
