Mark 11
verses 1-19 A Request As Prophesied Ride into Town Fig Tree Righteous Indignation 2/6/26

CHAPTER OUTLINE

OVERVIEW

Mark the author sections the chapter into sections or stories, and into topics, in which he recounts a pivotal moment before the celebration, riding into town on a donkey( vs 1-10) the cursed fig tree ( vs 12-14) and the moment Jesus looses his temper against merchandise sellers in the house of God. ( vs 15-18)

a donkey?

Jesus exemplified obedience to the cross as He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, fulfilling the prophecies of Zechariah 9:9 and Psalm 118:26. Specifically, He rode a donkey tied to a colt in a nearby city, an animal that had never been ridden before, specifically raised to serve the Messiah.

It was essential that Jesus did not simply ride any animal; it had to be this unique, never before ridden donkey that fulfilled the prophetic call. Jesus chooses a specific transportation method to celebrate his enterence into the  town of Jerusalem.  This act not only demonstrated His obedience but also highlighted the significance of fulfilling Scripture in a profound and intentional way.

“We must be Obedient to the CALL of GOD even to the point of discomfort and pain ” – Gospel of Mark 11

As we transition into this next section the author tells us just a few details to let us PONDER upon a specific moment that conserns a tree.

A fig tree 🌳

a natural phenomenon

that was designed to OBEY the LORD. Notice in verses 13-15 Jesus does not find fruit on the tree, so in turn he curses the fig tree.

– it’s purpose is to produce fruit, and when no fruit was found on the tree, (notice the details, because it was not it’s season,) it was cursed to never bear fruit again.

My take away from this section is to bear fruit in season and out of season, and no I am not talking about a literal fruit, I am talking about Galatians 5:22-23 type of fruit; patience, kindness, goodness, faithfullness, self control.

Let's Transition to this next SECTION

in which JESUS comes across a temple with merchandise at the door. Before you even enter into the TEMPLE, that are what we in modern day would call Merch, soliciting those who are entering in to buy the products.

JESUS was NOT OK with it

He stood against it. He called them out, and not only called them out, he destroyed their merch and products.

A little bit insensitive isn't it?

That wasn’t the CASE at all. Jesus was filled with righteous indignation against those who missused and misstreated the HOUSE of GOD turning it into a MARKETPLACE to solicit those entering into a worship space.

It was supposed to be a HOUSE of GOD, not a show, or entertainment, or even a market.

Nowdays, CHURCHES treat prayer like it’s nonexistant, and instead of worshipping and communing with GOD, churches solicit members to give up their hard earned money to buy the TREND.

Side Note: There is time and place for everything, let us not prioritize merch and products over prayer and communion with GOD, myself included.

Key Points

We must be a obedient. Wherever and whenever GOD calls us, we must answer, and submit to his will. Yes it will cost us, but isn’t a little discomfort, and a little pain worth a whole eternity? Matthew 6:19-21 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, but instead store up treasures in heaven.

Produce fruit. Do not be like the pharisee who did everything to a tee, followed the law, tithed, but forgot the most important part; produce fruit in keeping up with repentence. Matthew 3:8

Stand for GOD & HIS righteousness. Do not sit back, and quietly observe injustice, or tolerate evil in congregation, speak up, stand up, and turn down tables. James 1:27

LEAVE YOUR THOUGHTS 💭

Your Story is important to someone else. The details of your testimony are life to someone else. I couldn’t have spoken into strangers life, if I myself did not go through the battles. I can only speak because I know the pain, the hurt, and confusion. I pray God comforts us, and gives us the grace to tell our story, no matter how small the details are.

Let’s not hesitate to share our testimonies and help each other walk through the valleys, and reach our destinations together. With a sense of fulfillment, and helping others get there can be a rewarding and satisfying experience, because when we lift each other up, we don’t just reach our destinations, we thrive in them.

I’d love to share your Story on my SITE!
