CHAPTER OUTLINE

OVERVIEW

Mark the author sections the chapter into sections and into topics, in which he recounts a moment between Jesus and the religious teachers about the Word of God ( vs 35-37) warning about religious leaders ( vs 38-40) and the observence of widdow’s offering. ( vs 41-44)

CLAIM DISAPPROVAL

Jesus starts with confronting the religious scribes with wrong teaching or claims.

Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?

When the Bible teaches this?

He takes them to the Scripture

 Psalm 110:1

The Lord says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.

Mesiah – son of David ?

David himself calls him Lord

How can he be his son?

JESUS disapproves of their claim or belief with the Word of God

THE WARNING ⚠

in which Jesus warns his followers of the false teachers and law givers. ( vs 38-40)

What do these teachers of the Law look like?

 1. Appearance. Dress right, outward appearance on point; long flowing robes, making their phylacteries wide, and the tassels on their garments long.  Matthew 23:5

2.Reputation. Greeted with respect and honored in public places. They love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues. Matthew 23:6

3. High Places. Sit in important seats ( seat of honor, highly esteemed) apostle, preacher this, bishop that, teacher. Matthew 23:2,6,7

4. Purpose. Their purpose is to take and devour from widdows (the less fortunate) for show and entertainment. John 10:10

Years ago I was tricked by leaders like this, and deceived with the words of falsehood. This is why it is crucial to sharpen your Sword.

WIDDOW'S OFFERING 💰

Jesus observes a SCENE

A place of offering where everyone  participates

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.” ( vs 41-42)

Rich and poor

Rich gave large amounts of money, the poor also gave their coins.

JESUS specifically notices and points out

a particular woman

a widdow a woman who has lost her spouse by death and has not married again

widdows were looked down upon, and misstreated in society, especially by teachers of the law.

He noticed this widdow OUT OF ALL PEOPLE

She gave all she had, her last coins.

Key Points

Quality over quantity. Even though the rich gave a large sum of money, Jesus noticed the woman who gave the least.

Heart not appearance. Jesus looks at the heart not apperance of people. Notice the long robes, and put together robes did not fascinate him, he even exposed them. What mattered is the truth.

Be on guard. the enemy is out to deceive, we must look out for the deceivers, and protect ourselves with the Word of GOD. ALWAYS look out for false teaching, and rule out truth from error.

LEAVE YOUR THOUGHTS 💭

Your Story is important to someone else. The details of your testimony are life to someone else. I couldn’t have spoken into strangers life, if I myself did not go through the battles. I can only speak because I know the pain, the hurt, and confusion. I pray God comforts us, and gives us the grace to tell our story, no matter how small the details are.

Let’s not hesitate to share our testimonies and help each other walk through the valleys, and reach our destinations together. With a sense of fulfillment, and helping others get there can be a rewarding and satisfying experience, because when we lift each other up, we don’t just reach our destinations, we thrive in them.

I’d love to share your Story on my SITE!
