Each member in the body is important, and essential in it’s function, and service. One cannot say, I don’t need you, or another, I don’t need you, in-fact the parts that seem of least importance are actually the parts that are much needed in the body. Take the heart for example, a hidden organ, but an organ that plays an essential role in pumping the blood through the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to the cells as well as remove waste products. Or step on a nail, the whole body feels it!
While studying this chapter, I noticed some of the gifts that Paul mentioned in the chapter, I have acquired as well, for the furtherance of God’s Kingdom. I will try my best to describe these gifts and their functions, to the best of my knowledge, so when you are given these abilities, through the spirit, can also use them properly, according to its designed function.
NINE gifts of the spirit
Message of Wisdom
The first proportion of this gift, as Paul mentions in the chapter, is the message of wisdom. A special ability or talent given to us by God to bring the message of understanding, to the community, as well as insight, into a difficult situation or circumstance.
Message of Knowledge
The second is as important, message of knowledge, a sense of knowing, through the knowledge that flows directly from heaven, that cannot be perceived in this natural world, or understood by natural senses, again for the furtherance of the KINGDOM.
Faith
The third, just as important faith– a measure of faith that is given to the individual for the good of the community, and God’s purpose, and plan. A faith that is spoken of in Hebrew 11:1 ” substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ” An ability to believe beyond what we see, move at the command of God, a natural talent given to us from GOD, for his GLORY, and his purposes.
Healing
Fourth, again just as important, gifts of healing to mend the broken hearts, as well as restore health, to the body, and spirit. This gift or ability cannot be bought or sold, but is naturally given to each, as God proportioned it.
Miracles
Fifth, miraculous powers, spoken of, all through the bible, the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, all through the Old and New Testament. Miracles, signs and wonders; the parting of the sea, David and Goliath, Esther pleading for her nation; Daniel in the lions den, Joseph reigning in Egypt, Lazarus awaken from death, bones coming alive, and so many more. This gift activates miracles, and power that comes from above to an area of impossibility, that surpasses all known human or natural powers, as well as understanding of this world.
