Proverbs Intro

CHAPTER
OUTLINE

Although the book was written in ancient Israel, its messages remain applicable in the modern world.  As students study this book, they can learn wisdom that will help them draw closer to the Lord, and understand his ways.

What is Wisdom ?

Wisdom: – the capacity for learning, reasoning, or understanding.

If you desire wisdom you must give up foolishness. I always say, if you’re on the street of foolishness wisdom is nowhere to be found, and if you’re on the street of wisdom, success and prosperity will be your guide. You must give up the ways of the world and embrace God’s truth and wisdom.

Confess your faults and make it right with God. No matter how small. He is faithful and just to forgive us, of all unrighteousness. James 5:16

OVERVIEW

Solomon sections the chapter into verses into topics. He talks about Wisdom and why it’s important; who can  benefit from wisdom; and finally how to get wisdom ( vs 2-6) he also warns us to stay away from evil man, and to seek wisdom.

SCRIPTURES

Proverbs 1:5
Let the already wise add to their learning, be open to instruction and correction. You can learn a lot from just listening.

Proverbs 1:7-8
The first step to wisdom is to reject foolish ways, and begin to gain insight and understanding.  The minute that we say goodbye to foolishness, we gain wisdom. Wisdom loves those who embrace her. She calls outloud, and she’s preaching with boldness, hear her out.

Proverbs 1:10-16
Wisdom speaks to sons to pay attention and take heed. If you get invited to hang out and to do evil, do not accept the invitation. The end result is not pleasing, and it leads down to the pit.
Don’t be a follower of the wicked. Do not listen to their advice or accept their ways. Reject and run the other way.

Proverbs 1:20-27
Speaks of wisdom’s rebuke. She stands on the corner calling the simple, rebuking or correcting the mocker ” Repent at my rebuke.

Proverbs 1:28-33
When you reject wisdom, she will laugh at you. There are consequences for evil actions. She calls everyone to turn away from evil works.
