Struggling to Memorize Scripture?
Let’s START with a simple method and gradually build upon it to enhance our understanding and application.
Getting Started
Begin by reading the verse several times. As you do, try to memorize it and spend the day reflecting on its meaning and significance.
For example
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28-30
Break it Down
1. Divide the scripture into smaller parts.
2. Memorize the first part, and once you’re confident, move on to the second and then the third.
3. Before you know it, you’ll have memorized the entire passage!
I use this method with my Sunday school class, and it has proven to be very effective. We are encouraged to hide God’s Word in our hearts so that we can recall it when needed, as stated in Psalm 119:11
