Seek first the Kingdom, then everything else

A scripture that is read in churches, quoted on social media, and preached from the pulpits. 

SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM

So simple! but what does that even mean?

Matthew 6:33

The scripture ACTUALLY STARTS AT Matthew 6: 25 

” Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,

yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

So Jesus is instructing the disciples not to be anxious about the cares of this life, in other words, not to be worried, or be so caught up, about the food, drink, and our clothes. Jesus already knows we need those essential items!

He points out, this is what unbelievers seek, believers seek the Kingdom.

The key here, is to put our Trust and confidence in the one who provides food, shelter and clothing. 

Believers search for higher things of life, they are not concerned with carnal desires of the flesh. They already know God is providing them for those things.

He then shows an example of how he is taking care of the birds, and even lilies in the field, grass and anything that we see in this life.

If he takes care of those things, he sure as well will provide for our ( human) needs.

That does not mean we are to fold our hands, and wait on God to drop us bread from heaven, or bring water to our doorstep, we might have to put in a bit of effort on that part, common sense here people.

but it does mean, that we are NOT to let those things affect us so much, that we forget who is the provider of all those things.

God is ! And he is a rewarder of them, who earnestly seek him!

If you seek him first, truly then all these things and more will be available to you.

 Seeking however requires effort, seeking requires patience, seeking requires trust and confidence.

Put God First! Seek for him in the morning

What does it mean to SEEK GOD first? 

It’s to consciously seek for opportunities to put GOD first. 

in Marriage, your family, health, workplace, in relationships, in your finances, through your struggles, good and the bad.

 Start your day with a positive attitude, waking up, going to bed, getting into prayer,  devotions, destroy every yoke of bondage, declare life, and not death.

Set a tone for your day!

The mistake we make is that we say I’ll pray after xyz, do my devotions after, catch up on my studies, when I get around to it.

Dismiss his attacks Warrior of His. God has placed authority in you to destroy the plots and schemes set before you.

DECREE and DECLARE

That no weapon formed against you will prosper, in ANY kind of way. EVERY accusing tongue, is already condemned! You shall do Great and Mighty things! Isaiah 54:17

Truth is

We run to our phones more, we check our emails and social media more, we check in with OTHERS first, we put everything else FIRST then if we have a spot, we will put GOD in.

We Say we put God first but our actions say otherwise!

GOD instructs us to SEEK his Kingdom, Righteousness First.

What is God’s Kingdom, and what is his Righteousness?

It’s making conscious effort to seek his face, make time to pray, make time to study his word, pursue his purpose for your life, fast, deny earthly pleasures, search for his will concerning your life.

BE INTENTIONAL

Put everything aside and seek God first. Before even starting breakfast seek God and his will. Let him direct your steps, and instruct your ways.

Trust me, I have been there myself not seeking his will or direction for my life, walking in pride and arrogance like I got it all figured out on my own.

We will not be fooled. We will set everything aside, and put God first, including our phones. Give honor to whom it’s due! He is worthy of our praise!
