I have gone on a quest of discovering Modesty” by chance, and let me tell you, CLOTHES isn’t it! Holiness dresses isn’t it! Jean skirts isn’t it, leggings underneath isn’t it! Longer shirts underneath isn’t it! Covered and modest pants isn’t it.
You can be dressed to impress, but your heart can be polluted, hateful, and full of greed. You can be judgmental towards those who do not wear what is acceptable to you, and even ostracize yourself from anyone who practices belief any different, while pointing fingers at others, and slandering the next worldly person in pants. ( Hypocrisy) You can even hold grudges, and be prideful in the same holy dress, covering your ankles.
Cleansing your heart, seeking God, his approval, his permission, is IT!
Notice in Matthew 23: 1-6 the author speaks of such behavior, and concludes that outward appearance is religion.
Modesty is Moderation! A standard by which we are to measure our holiness standard. Just as a mirror reflects the image, so does our clothing. We are to be Holy as he is Holy.
I’m referring to the believers, Hello!
Don’t misunderstand this, or you’ll miss it!
Modesty by definition
MODESTY by biblical standard
State, quality or standard of being moderate
as opposed to, another standard of moderation.
humility, humbleness, meekness, godliness.
MODESTY is a standard by which we are to stand by in all matters of our lives, not just CLOTHING!
Modesty is moderation of anything we do, say, wear, and even behave. This simply means this. As a Christian I can do all things, because everything as Paul says; is permissible to me, 1 Cor 10:23
Freedom to choose
but notice the verse after,
What is permitted in this world, is not always pleasing to God, or beneficial to my walk with him.
While there are some sisters who truly practice what they believe, I truly honor them…but there are very few!
even I failed at times,
wearing long skirts, but having pride in my heart, covering my legs, but yelling at my children, hello?
Pharisee, the religious folks, rulers of LAW, in the bible, dress themselves really good, but were the worst kind, hypocrites! They made sure to tithe to a tee, appear righteous, in front of others, while failing to make it, or lift a finger. In public they were proper clothing, [long robes, tassels etc] followed the law….[regulations and traditions] yet fell short of God’s standard!
mercy, justice, forgiveness
Refer to Matthew 23; Matthew 6; Luke 11; Luke 20
They forgot about the most important matters, like mercy, justice, and grace.
If you’re going to do one, you might as well do another.
When I think about modesty I think about moderation, and not just my clothing, but my everything. Because everything I have, and everything I am belongs to the Lord.
Not only am I to pay attention to my clothing, I am to pay attention to the important matters too! Otherwise I am a hypocrite!
I went on a journey to discover truth, ( open heart, spirit, belief) with truth attached ( the sword, armor, weapons) discerning what is right, pleasing, perfect.
And let me tell you
You can be as sinful with your skirt down to the floor, as you can with modest pants exposing your behind.
You can gossip (talk about others in a dishonest way) as much as the person in the world does ( one who does not even have the standard, or the principle)
You can be entertained the same way, be greedy, arrogant the same way, then slap “holiness” brand on it.
So sisters, it’s not about clothing, and the type of clothing, but the attitude of what we wear, and how we wear it.
To please others, gain confidence, approval, from others or wear it, simply because we need to put something on, feel confident, with no strings attached.
Disregarding really the type of clothing to wear, or not to wear.
