Philosopher George Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” That usually refers to remembering the mistakes of the past, If we don’t remember them, we are likely to make them again. But the same could be said about blessings. If we fail to remember the blessings of the past, we are more likely to fear the future.
When Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land, he had a stone memorial built after they crossed the Jordan River. It was to remind future generations that God not only dried up the Jordan so they could cross, but He also parted the Red Sea so they could escape the Egyptian army (Joshua 4:19-24).
Before Jesus returned to heaven, He instituted a memorial meal by which, when celebrated, future generations of believers could remember His death for them. Remembering the blessings of the past is a powerful motivation for facing the future. So let’s remember not to forget.
KEEP A JOURNAL
I encourage you to keep a journal or diary in which to record what God has done in your life? It is a helpful way never to forget and make a great read for your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and others for generations to come. What a strategic way to minister, long after we’ve taken our flight.

Father in Jesus name, Today is a good day to be thankful, and we thank You for our daily bread, Lord. Thank You for helping us today, for a new opportunity to love, to give, and to become the person You want us to be. We praise you today Lord for you are our Father. Thank You for allowing us to awake to yet another beautiful day. We’re grateful for the beauty of the sun, rain, and Your other creations. We need Your guidance as we prepare ourselves for this day, we do not know what it holds for us; but we know who holds us. We are extremely grateful for all of Your blessings in our lives. We pray You remind us of just how blessed we are and You never allow us to forget to show our gratitude in prayer and returned acts of kindness to others.
Lord, we give You all that we are this day. Please brush away our weariness, so that we may be inspired in our work. Help us to discover new ways to reveal Your love to all we meet. Keep our minds clear and focused on all we need to achieve, and give us the wisdom to overcome difficulties and find solutions. Thank You for all your blessings to us and our families; for the strength you give us each day and for all the people You have surrounded us with who make life more meaningful. Thank You for being a miracle worker. All we need is a word from You. We’re mindful of the Eagle, the only bird that flies directly into a storm. While other birds “run” from the weather, the Eagle actively engages these stronger winds and, instead of seeking shelter, uses the turbulence to push itself higher. Lord, with Your amazing strength we too can rise above our storms, and praise You in the middle of them. Great is Your Faithfulness! Comfort those whose hearts have been damaged by broken relationships. After all, Father You know what’s best. You’ll never lead us to anything toxic. Give us the strength to walk away. You’re the Good Shepherd and You love Your sheep. Your blessings add no sorrow. Help us to rid ourselves of any dead weight, so like the Eagle, we can rise above our storms and soar. Some ways You take us is to test us and humble us, so You can do us good at our latter end. No one can stop You from blessing us. Amen
